Introduction

Welcome to the Great Island Chain.

These islands have hung in the clouds longer than anyone can remember.

Some say they were flung up here from a place called Acenpride. Others believe them the work of the gods, though such talk isn't polite nowadays.

Going down to find out is impossible, as the clouds become too thick to bear at a certain point. All we have to work off is guesses and hearsay.

For most of history, the Four Quarters--the individual 'nations' of this part of the Chain--have kept to themselves, sharing in trade and technology but not much else.

Four centuries ago, though, that changed when Merlin, Lord of Magic, claimed the metropolis of Stere, a cultural, commercial, and technological hub.

He used his magic to change the city. Whether that was for the better or the worse depends on who you ask and how close you are to Stere.

Now, Sterian government spreads slowly across the Chain, its agents becoming braver by the day. All beneath the One Rule are united.

Leading up to today, the 19th of Lealet, you have been indicted of a crime and captured by Sterian forces. Whether you are guilty, and whether you went willingly, is up to you.

You awaken in a stone cell, stripped of your gear, on your way to face execution. There is only one option left.
