Common Queries

What level are we starting at?

Level 1.

Is multiclassing allowed?

Since we're all new to Pathfinder, no. This is a Pathfinder game, by the way.

What ancestries can I use?

Elves, gnomes, halflings, humans, leshy, orcs, strix, anadi, and vishkanya have explicit places in the world. Any other are welcome; talk to me about where your character fits in first.

What classes can I use?

You can play any class, including Gunslinger and Inventor.

What's the policy on legacy vs. remastered content?

If you choose something that isn't remastered yet, just be aware that I will switch to remaster rules as they come out. You can use it, and I'll find ways to interpret dropped or changed mechanics. Just be aware that things are subject to change.

Is homebrew allowed?

No. We haven't worked out Pathfinder enough for homebrew yet, so unless we're looking at a built-in guideline for making something, it's official sources only.

What’s the current date in-world when we start?

19 Lealet 1254, the start of autumn.

What kind of religions do people in-world follow?

Religion is generally frowned upon, but as far as any proven deities go, the arcane power of Merlin is potent enough that some revere him as a deity. Otherwise, creation theories are generally scientific, and divine power is hastily and hushedly chalked up to arcane magic that is not yet understood.

How about the theme? Horror, comedy, thriller?

Ideally adventurous, comedic, and at times touching. I aim for that Half-Life 2 kind of mood.

How long do you think each session will be?

Three, ideally four hours, with a 15-minute break in the middle.

What kind of dungeon master are you? Should I expect a lot of roleplay, combat, or a mixture of both?

I like using both. We'll see how Pathfinder sets the scales.

Any trigger warnings I should know about, or any that you’d like to know I have?

If there are creatures or tropes you're not okay with, please message me, even if you think I already know. If you've got any issue with spiders, undeath, harm to animals (fighting off attacking wolves, not kicking puppies), or if there's anything you think might come up that you want me to be aware of, let me know or find an anonymous way to submit a request. I've added a button on Foundry under the 'raise my hand' button to play an X card, which will show exclusively me that somebody isn't okay. If things get too intense, don't hesitate to push the button, and I'll rework the scene to be tamer.

Is there a chance our characters will get some downtime?

Yes, Pathfinder has a built-in downtime mechanic between adventures.

Are we using XP or milestones?

XP.

What’s the environment like in the world? Mostly water, sand, or grass?

It's a large archipelago of floating islands. Lots of forest, but there's lakes, tundras, and a whole sea and mountain range.

Is this a high magic / high gold world?

The world is high magic. Pathfinder generally gives you a lot of gold to work with, too.

Can I PVP with the other player characters at the table?

If you want things to go beyond a disagreement and shaken fist, you need to clear it by everybody at the table explicitly.

Where are we meeting up at?

Whatever VC is free, or my house if you can make it.

What times and days do the games tend to start?

I like Fridays at 12:00 EST, but we're still workshopping.

How much character backstory should I write?

Write as much as you want me to incorporate. The more you have, the more I can work with.

Will anything that I write actually matter?

I want to ease up on the backstory-based adventures for this game, but I will try my best to keep your stuff relevant.

Does the party care about team composition, and if so what are they missing?

Since we're still new, I'd like if we could shoot for the typical RPG lineup of warrior, thief, mage, and healer. We currently have a gunslinger.

I think something should be added to this section.
